I am a Bad Christian and I do a lot of things that evangelical Christian culture tells me not to do. I was raised sort of Catholic but tend to go to Southern Baptist or Mennonite Brethren churches. I think Christianity, the church, spirituality, God and Jesus are all extremely relevant but maybe not in the way that many Christians believe. I (try to) respect other Christians but I also have a lot of problems with their views. I also have an academic and or historical and or sociological interest in Christianity, which presents its own set of problems as I try to reconcile my faith with my objective knowledge and logic.
my original intention, in starting this blog, was to give readers of my everyday blog a reprieve from my "biblethumping" posts. but I am very passionate about exploring Christianity, so it soon took on a mind of its own. a lot of my entries are probably more graphic or personal than perhaps they should be, mostly because I think transparency is a good thing. I like the idea that people can see how I struggle. I know I'm supposed to be a good role model and be "above reproach", but I think it's important that people see there is more to grasping Christianity than just having a spotless moral record.
my main "interests" include sexuality, relationships, premarital sex, the body, gender, homosexuality, intimacy, agape love, emotional vulnerability, the rapture, the history of religion in North America, new religious movements (ie. cults), paganism, apocrypha, the change in sexual mores from the old testament to the new testament, and hypocrisy. I like to think about these things a lot and use the word "implications" a lot. I also like to experiment with these things myself, apparently, and come to conclusions about them which are most likely biased. but I think God probably understands.
when I am not blogging or reading articles on the intertubes, I like to read books and go to lectures and attend sermons and talk to Christian friends. I was going to write a whole section about my illustrious hobbies but mostly I am pretty normal, aside from not always fitting in with secular people... or Christians, for that matter.
